John Stauffer brings a wealth of performing, teaching and judging experience to the MMBA judging team, primarily in the area of percussion, but also with overall music effect and several administrative positions within our activity. His marching career starting at Cedar Crest HS where he competed in the first indoor percussion shows ever held in the country, and include winning the first indoor percussion championships ever held. He was a marching member of the Westshoremen Senior Drum and Bugle Corps from 1983-1988 and then went on to be on their percussion staff from 1989–1992 winning High Drum Execution twice. He was also a member of the Westshoremen Alumni Corps and was the Percussion Caption Lead for several years until the corps disbanding. John has been the Caption head or on staff of many fine high school marching percussion units including Cedar Crest HS 1982-1988 and 2015-present, Carlisle HS 1990, Cedar Cliff HS 1990-1999 and Indian Valley HS 1997-2000. Other programs he has written and instructed include Susquehanna Twp HS, Camp Hill HS, Trinity HS, Conestoga Valley HS, Hershey HS and Cumberland Valley HS. John also still composes percussion scores for local band programs today. John’s has been involved in judging since 1991 and he currently judges with Cavalcade of Bands, Keystone Indoor Drill Association, Mid Atlantic Percussion Society, New York State Field Band Association, New York State Percussion Circuit, MMBA and Drum Corps Associates. He is currently the KIDA Judging Coordinator and served as the DCA Percussion Caption Chairman from 2004-2009.
